Gratitude in the Holiday Season

A young woman said recently to a volunteer at the Food Cupboard, "I don't know what I would do without you people."

The volunteers who run the Cupboard say the same about you, our donors.  We don't know what we would do without you!

Whether you have written us a check, made a PayPal donation on-line, brought in a store gift card or delivered a donation of food, we thank you most sincerely.

We could not continue to serve over 600 low-income West Chester households every month without your generous support.

Empty Bowls

CALL FOR BOWLS: We are currently seeking donations of handmade or hand-glazed bowls for our first annual Empty Bowls Dinner (more info to follow). West Chester Friends School families, friends, neighbors and interested community groups can help by glazing bowls at The Painted Plate!

The Painted Plate is offering a discounted price of $11* to glaze a bowl for our event from November 16 to 30 and December 30 to January 13. Please mark all bowls glazed for this event with WCFS Empty Bowl. There is no need to return to pick up your glazed/fired bowl as a representative from the school will be picking up all bowls made for this event.

*no additional coupons or discounts will be accepted and bowls made for

personal use will be charged regular price

West Chester Restaurants Supporting Our Shelters and Food Cupboards

In observance of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
November 10 - 17, 2012

The following restaurants will donate a portion of your meal check to West Chester shelters and food cupboards:

Avalon: 312 South High Street
Tuesday, November 13 & Wednesday, November 14
20% of dinner ~ Must present coupon to server.

Iron Hill: 3 West Gay Street
Tuesday, November 13
20% of lunch or dinner (meal and non-alcoholic beverages before tax)
Must present coupon to server.

Landmark Americana: 158 West Gay Street
Monday, November 12
25% of total check... all day!
Must present coupon to server.

All proceeds will be divided equally among the shelters at Friends Association, Safe Harbor and the Salvation Army AND the food cupboards at ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester, The Salvation Army, St. Agnes Outreach Services and West Chester Food Cupboard.

Feedback Community Day and Outdoor Concert Pays Off!

1,917 pounds of food
were donated from the Feedback Concert on Saturday!

Thanks to the praise bands of the Baptist Church of West Chester, Christ Community Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church for a wonderful afternoon of music and sharing, benefitting the Food Cupboard.

Summer Collection

Summer time is usually considered a carefree time for children and their families, isn’t it?  Picnics, relaxing, vacations, cookouts and fun.

We don’t usually associate summer time with hunger and empty stomachs.  But we should.

At a time when food insecurity in this country is so high, an overwhelming majority of children who receive free or reduced-price meals at school aren’t as lucky once school lets out.

Imagine if your kids came to you saying, “We’re hungry! What’s for lunch?” and you had nothing to offer them.

Hunger never takes a vacation.

Join with us, as we make sure that the families who come to the Food Cupboard each month for supplementary food, receive some extra items to help feed those hungry mouths over the summer.

Here are some ideas of what we are collecting.

• Peanut butter
• Juice boxes
• Crackers
• Jelly
• Soup
• Cereal
• Canned spaghetti/ravioli
