Summer
time is usually considered a carefree time for children and their families,
isn’t it? Picnics, relaxing, vacations,
cookouts and fun.
We
don’t usually associate summer time with hunger and empty stomachs. But we should.
At a time when food insecurity in this country is so
high, an overwhelming majority of children who receive free or reduced-price
meals at school aren’t as lucky once school lets out.
Imagine
if your kids came to you saying, “We’re hungry! What’s for lunch?” and you had
nothing to offer them.
Hunger
never takes a vacation.
Join
with us, as we make sure that the families who come to the Food Cupboard each
month for supplementary food, receive some extra items to help feed those
hungry mouths over the summer.
Here are some ideas of what we are collecting.
- Granola bars
- Fruit
- Cheese sticks
- Peanut butter
- Juice boxes
- Crackers
- Jelly
- Soup
- Cereal
- Canned spaghetti/ravioli
