Fresh Veggies!!!

Here at the West Chester Food Cupboard we absolutely LOVE getting fresh produce for our clients.  These beautiful greens were grown right here in Chester County and are a great item to be able to provide this holiday weekend.  Thank you to all of our supporters who allow us to provide fresh, healthy food to our neighbors in need.

Annual Volunteers' Meeting

On Friday, March 22 we held our annual West Chester Food Cupboard volunteers' meeting.  We are grateful to Westminster Presbyterian Church for once again allowing us to use their lovely facility for this event.  Over 50 of our 110 regular volunteers were able to juggle their personal and work schedules to attend this fun event. This is the one time of the year when all the volunteers get to see one another and catch up on what is happening at the Cupboard. Information was shared about our latest fundraising and marketing efforts and all were pleased to learn that, thanks to the generous support of the community and the volunteers' hard work, the state of the Cupboard is good!

 

Delicious Fruit from Florida!

It's the time of year for the Rotary Club of West Chester's Annual Fruit Sale.  Order delicious oranges and grapefruit from Florida to benefit the community.  This year's lucky recipient is the Interfaith Housing Assistance Corporation of Chester County. (West Chester Food Cupboard was last year's beneficiary)

This Month at the Food Cupboard

The weather has been kind to us and we have not had to close our doors because of bad conditions, although we have had some close calls!

Our client numbers remain high but happily we have been able to meet the demand because of the continued genorosity of the community.  People are hungry all year round and we work hard to keep food on our shelves. Thankfully donations have continued even though the big holiday food drives are long gone.

We are always looking for ways to improve the service we provide our clients.  For example, we used to offer every household one jar of spaghetti sauce and one can of tomatoes regardless of the number of people in the family. We have started to offer two jars of sauce and two cans of tomatoes to all families and four  of each to families of five and more. We have also increased the quantities of milk, eggs, and fresh produce we offer.  Client response has been very positive.

Happy 2013!

With each New Year comes retrospect on all of the wonderful people that help us to carry on our mission to  our West Chester Area clients.  But, we also take this time to look forward...

With 2013 came a new partnership with Fig West Chester.  The West Chester Food Cupboard has been chosen as the Social Partner for Fig in the year of 2013.  This means that Fig will work with our organization to help promote awareness of our services to the West Chester area as well as spread the word about the hard work that our volunteers do for the community all year long.
